We don’t believe in the traditional model of a set promotion schedule from analyst → senior analyst → manager with a set-in-stone 1-2 year delay at each step. If we see potential in you, we will ask you early on if management is something that you’re interested in, and if you are immediately get you moving toward the training and toolkit you need to manage.
Our Head of Sales joined us as a senior product manager, our Head of Marketing joined us as a strategy & operations associate and our Head of Pricing joined us as a product analyst. All of this is possible due to our philosophy of thinking from first principles. We don’t think about things from the perspective that “this is how it’s always done” → we think from scratch and think about how to improve and innovate on things that already exist. We’re not afraid to break and rebuild things over and over again.
To help you develop your potential, we will push and encourage you to move away from your comfort zone and be a little uncomfortable. We’ll push you to go a little faster and think deeper to expand your thinking. We’ll challenge your thinking and encourage/expect you to challenge ours as well. We often “think in the open” here at Clipboard and post our thoughts and challenges that we’re facing on public slack channels so other team members can jump in and help each other out - it’s called “#player-development”. In this channel, we humbly ask for advice and support on operational and management challenges. All of this is possible through our culture built on no ego and humility.
We believe that management can be taught (we’ve done it successfully!) and we created a curriculum for all our incoming managers and our individual contributors (ICs) pivoting into management. No management positions here at Clipboard require an MBA. We will teach you everything there is to know about managing at Clipboard (for free!)
